The State Museum on half an hour west side is housed in a large mansion with traditional as well as modern-day art. The gallery in the ground floor has fine Pahari miniatures developed under the Kangra rulers. These traditional paintings clearly show Mughal miniature art influence in them, with themes from the Hindu God of Love - lord Krishna's life. While in other museum parts you can view a collection of traditional jewellery and costumes, temple bronzes, stone sculptures and deity masks of Kullu valley. One of the rooms in the museum is devoted to the father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi who was there in Shimla for some time. The display at museum includes caricatures of Mahatma Gandhi and his meetings with the British rulers. Viceregal Lodge built in 1888, presently known as the President's house is the most remarkable colonial structure of Shimla. However, only some parts of the museum that are opened for Institute of Advanced Studies can be viewed by public.

The Jakhu Temple built at 2,455 kms height on Jakhu hills is believed to be the highest point on the ridge. This temple is dedicated to Lord Hanuman, the monkey god, is beset with hordes of aggressive monkeys. So don't give food to them & keep away all edibles from them when you reach there. The other interesting spots in Shimla include Chadwick Falls, the Tara Devi temple, the Sankat Mochan Temple on the Shimla-Kalka road & the Himalayan Aviary close near Viceregal Lodge, with birds like pheasant, the monal, peacocks and pea fowls. Travel through the wooded suburb of Summer Hill to visit the University. You can do night stay over here.
