Known as the "Pink city of India" - Jaipur is amongst the most fascinating tourist attractions in India. Jaipur , the capital of Rajasthan, was founded by king, Sawai Jai Singh II in 1727.The city has been planned as per Shilpa Shastra, an ancient architecture yext of India, by a young Bengali architect, Vidyasagar.

Major Tourist Destinations in Jaipur
Hawa Mahal
Popularly known as 'The Palace of Winds', this magnificent piece of art was built by Sawai Jai Singh II in 1799 AD. The beehive structure of the palace was built by the king so that the royal household ladies may watch regal processions as well as daily life activities in privacy & comfort.

The City Palace
It is the major tourist attraction of Jaipur. The City Place is a superior blend of two magnificent architecture forms that is of Rajput & Mughal. This palace spreads across one seventh of the walled city area & was built by Jai Singh. The ornately designed palatial structure has numerous well constructed gardens & courtyards. In addition to this, the City Palace has a museum that magnificently displays the Mughal & Rajput costumes, royal paraphernalia, miniature paintings, and similar other art forms.

Amber Fort
Situated on a small hillock, this fort palace overlooks the city of Jaipur. Its construction is believed to have started in 1592 AD by Raja Man Singh & finally completed in the 18th century by Sawai Jai Singh. The entire structure is a wonderful blend of Rajput & Mughal architecture that reveals the grandeur & magnificence of the royal era.

Jal Mahal built by Sawai Pratap Singh for duck shooting parties in 1799 AD. It's famous for its intricate architecture on red sandstone. The best part of the whole construction is that the first four floors are under water with the top floor only being visible. A walkway connects this palace to the main land. For this reason the place attracts many migratory birds in the winter months.

Nahargarh Fort
Nahargarh Fort or 'The Tiger Fort' is widely known for its grand structure. It is believed to have first built by Jai Singh II in 1734 & is the first of the 3 forts built by the Rajput kings.

Jaigarh Fort
The rugged military structure stands on a cliff offering clearer views of Jaipur city. Built by Sawai houses a canon on wheels, which is the largest in the world & a museum that displays the vast canons and weapons used by the Rajputs.

Jantar Mantar
Jantar Mantar is another magnificent structure built by Sawai Jai Singh in 1716. It is also the world's largest stone observatory. Located near the entrance of the City Palace, it has numerous medieval astronomical instruments to display.

How to reach
Jaipur is 262 km away from Delhi by air, rail and road. There are regular flights from Jaipur to Delhi, Mumbai & Calcutta besides those weekly flights to Udaipur and Jaisalmer. The government also has a special train named "The Palace on Wheels" that originates from Delhi and offers trip to Rajasthan. Numerous Express & Deluxe buses are run the Rajasthan government as well as several private operators. Tourists can even enjoy tour using pre paid auto rickshaws & hiring bicycles.
