Darjeeling, a lovely tourist place in India is known for its natural beauty, clean fresh mountain air & above all, the smiling pliant people for whom it is a residence. Darjeeling is situated in 1,200sq miles at a height of 2,234 meters. Darjeeling's best gift to its visitors is the sunrise of a new day. The atmosphere of Darjeeling is cold with clammy and dimness. The Kabru, Kanchenjunga, Jannu, a snow capped Everest, slowly appear from snooze to start a new day. The sun worshippers wheeze at the magnificent sight. The town leisurely comes alive as the fog disappears in the slowly piercing sun, the sing-song Gorkhali.

Climate : The climate remains pleasing and enjoyable in summers with a maximum temperature of 25�C. The best time for visiting Darjeeling is from April & lasts till June.

The best months to visit Darjeeling in winter are from December to February. December month is occasionally accompanied by heavy snow fall with heavy rains and mist.

Clothing : Dress yourself with light woolens in summer and in winter with heavy woolens.

Languages : Native speak Hindi, English, Gorkha, Nepali, Tibetan and Bengali.

Religions : Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam and Christianity.

Tourist attraction of Darjeeling in India:
Darjeeling in India is incomplete without a visit to Ghoom that is 6 km away from the main town. The hillock, the famous Yiga Choeling Monastery has 15 images of the Maitreya Buddha. People can visit the Museum of Natural History, a fine collection of Himalayan animals, reptiles, birds and insects. Flora and Llyod Botanic Garden is the place of interest where one can fully enjoy. It has a marvelous collection of orchids and alpine.

India Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park is where you can see snow leopard, the Himalayan black bear and the Ussurian tigers. The other places to view include the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute established in 1954 by the Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru who was also the first Director and Advisor of the institute was Tenzing Norgay. The Darjeeling-Rangit Valley ropeway, one km away from the zoo is a thrilling ride with splendid views & is considered to be the longest in Asia. The Tibetan Refugee Self Help Center established in 1959 is a haven for ethnic Tibetan art and produces excellent Tibetan crafts like leather, wood and carpet work.

Dhirdham Temple built by Rai Saheb Purna Bahadur Pradhan and the architect named Beg Raj Sakya in 1939. It is located near the Darjeeling Railway Station. The statue of Lord shive depicts "Pancha Bakram Tri Netram" with the five diverse facial lexis of Lord Shiv in diverse moods & the Third Eye Aarti is held at 8.00 am in every morning in and at 6.00 pm in the evening.

Another place is Tiger Hill that is 11 kms away from the town and at an altitude of 2,590m (8482 ft). Mountain and nature lovers to view is the world's most grand mountains- "Khang- Chen-Dzod-Nga" of powerful Kanchenjunga, the king of all.

Mount Everest ,at a distance of 225 kms, rarely comes out of the cloudy mists, with its two other peaks Mahakalu and Tibet's Chomol Hari mountain, which is believed to be the world's most beautiful peak.

An engineering marvel and 5 kms away from Darjeeling is the Batasia Loop, The Toy's train's body is 8s and Z maneuvers are as quaint as the flowers, water and streams- falls. In Batasia windy place - Visitor gets a striking view of the town of Darjeeling balanced on the slopes of hills & Mt. Kanchenjunga in the background. The War Memorial, built in the memory of brave sons of Darjeeling, is worth viewing. Also one can enjoy the glorious view of snowy peak and town from this place.

The Happy Valley tea estate is located 3 kms away from the main town (Chowk Bazar). One can get a magnificent view of the Mt. Kanchenjunga, provided the day is sunny and you are lucky. The estate is the oldest and most well-known tea estates in Darjeeling where world class Darjeeling Tea is produced. All the process like picking of tea leaf, manufacturing of tea can be seen here. One cannot forget to buy a pack of tea from this lovely estate.

Barbotey rock garden is a very attractive picnic spot with natural water falls. The Rock Garden was founded by the Gorkha Hill Council Tourism Department. Gangamaiah Park Just below the Rock Garden is the newly constructed. Tourists must enjoy the beauty of this park after seeing the Rock Garden. One can easily get taxis to reach this location.

Mirik, the newest hill-resort in West Bengal is at a height of 5,800 feet and nearly central on a 100 km different route between Darjeeling and Siliguri. Mirik is a lovely spot for the new tourist resort, shaped like a tiny valley. There is a natural lake structure fed with perpetual springs and rain water. There is a 1.25 km long lake, impounded by formation of a wall.The view of sunrise or sunset from "Rameetay Dara", would go to make a fine holiday. The Day-centre is a comfortable lounge for fooding and refreshment at the eastern bank. Visitors have a wonderful time to spend in Fishing, boating, embellishment.

How to Reach Darjeeling in India
By Road - Indian tourism provides you permit vehicles for the local transportations and also for the intercity drives too.

By Rail - The bordering railhead is Siliguri. The Toy train runs from NewJalpaiguri/Siliguri.

By Air - The flights are available, from Calcutta to Bagdogra that is 90 km away from south.

Hotels flourish in Darjeeling in India. Besides the International Youth Hostel, there are more newly opened hotels as well. Hotel Shangrila, that is built along the main promenade, Chowrasta, is typical of the traditional hot pagoda style architecture.
